Details
Alpha Box and Dice (AB&D) arent afraid of experimentation and 'thinking outside the box'.....must be why we like them so much. This is Grenache, viewed through their slightly weird, slightly awesome lense.
Plenty of winemaking clever stuff here - whole bunch fermentation, carbonic maceration and long lees aging in tank and puncheon, but don't worry about that. The energy and nerve of the wine is retained and the drinkability is way high.
Red plum, white pepper, honey, spiced cherry, raspberry. Plenty of fruit and plenty of fun. Great stuff.
If you’re a fan of unique, unusual, and utterly delicious Australian wine, you’re probably already very family with Alpha Box & Dice and their incredibly varied and endlessly fascinating output. Since 2008, head winemaker Dylan Fairweather has set himself a mission to break down the barriers which exist in the wine industry, and explore the real potential of the best vineyards within his reach. This means breaking a whole load of rules regarding winemaking methods and approaches and following his instincts and nose when it comes to what works, what doesn’t, and what totally blows people’s minds. The result? A portfolio of wines which brings lesser known grapes to the Australian table, made using methods designed to bring out the best of every fruit, and which involve holistic, natural approaches which capture every scrap of terroir and character available. As dedicated experimentalists, Alpha Box & Dice are known for strange blends, interesting flavour profiles, and wine styles which stray far from the usual. Despite all this, there’s a serious dedication to quality underpinning it all, and no matter strange some of their methods and choices seem on paper, Dylan and his team make sure that, in the glass, it all makes perfect sense. This is a winery on an exciting path! Alpha Box and Dice (AB&D) arent afraid of experimentation and 'thinking outside the box'.....must be why we like them so much. Pairing guide
Grenache is one of our all-time favourite food pairing red wines. Why? Because those gorgeous juicy, fruit forward flavours bring out the best in a wide range of our favourite dishes. From roast chicken or turkey (indeed, Grenache is a classic Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner wine), to pork, gammon, or bacon, that unique flavour profile really works beautifully on the palate. For vegetarians, there’s plenty to cheer about here, too - Grenache goes stunningly well with grilled vegetables, especially aubergine. It’s also a fantastic canapes wine, as it pairs with all kinds of savoury finger foods and decadent treats. Add some caramelised onion into the mix, and you’re on your way to meat-free heaven with this truly scrumptious wine.
