Details
Predominantly Semillon, this skin contact orange wine is the perfect gateway to a category that can, at times be a bit challenging. This is a floral number, with - yep - orangey notes of tangerine and orange skin. There is a subtle weight to the palate, with a lick of bitterness and tannin on the finish that makes this a wonderfully versatile wine that would sing alongside spicy dishes.
When you are born in the town of Libourne, in the heartland of Bordeaux, it is pretty difficult not to have grown up tasting wine as a child, and this was certainly the case for Olivier Cazenave who, it is safe to say, has Bordeaux wine running through his veins. Keen to learn more about the wine industry as a whole, instead of just jumping feet first into production, Olivier spent time working on the more commercial side of the wine business. He picked up roles in export and sales for several negociants in France, before establishing ChateauOnline - one of the first e-commerce websites in the world dedicated to wine. Fast forward, with his wife Anne, Olivier purchased a small four-and-a-half hectare estate just south of his hometown of Libourne. The couple has since replanted much of their vineyards with a keen focus on biodynamic farming - for which they achieved legal certification in 2016. Olivier's 'Bel a Ciao' wine (and label) is a tip of the hat to his revolutionary approach to winemaking in a region that, it has to be said, is a bit stuck in its ways.

Pairing guide
We’re all orange wine fans nowadays, and this delightful number from Olivier Cazenave et Château is a brilliant example of what this wine style does best. As for food pairing, we reckon this is a top match for Middle Eastern and Moroccan flavours - homemade falafel and tabbouleh, salads of heritage grains and pomegranate, and anything featuring tasty walnuts, feta and olives should do the trick. It’ll also be superb with meatier fish dishes, and chicken thigh casseroles, too.

Wine region
Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux is a wine region located in southwestern France, known for producing some of the world's most coveted and expensive wines. The main takeaway is that Bordeaux wines are a blend of grape varieties. Sometimes called noble varieties, this includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. This ‘Bordeaux blend’ style is emulated worldwide from Australia to South America!
Key regions can be divided into two areas, the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The Left Bank includes Médoc, comprised of sub-regions - Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, and Margaux. These wines are Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with serious tannin structure for the long term. The Right Bank is known for softer wines made of Merlot. The top right-bank area is Pomerol, home to the iconic Château Pétrus with honourable mentions to Saint-Emilion and Fronsac.
