Details
Colombard blends with Ugni Blanc in this super-fresh, very crisp, summery white wine. This beauty is packed full of citrus freshness from top to bottom with a lovely green, grassy, herbal accent across the nose and palate. This is Sauvignon Blanc-esque, with racy acidity and oodles of green herbal notes.
Origin: Southwest France. Mainly Grown In: France, USA and South Africa. Key Facts: Colombard is probably the most prolific and widely planted grape variety in France that you haven't heard of. It is quite rare to see it by itself in a standalone wine, instead, it blends well with a few other important varieties also from southwestern France; Ugni Blanc and Folle Blanche. By and large, Colombard blends make for pretty fresh, easy drinking and crisp styles of wine. Around two-thirds of the worlds Colombard can be found in France. But there is also some interesting innovation underway in parts of California that is seeing some pretty high-quality wines made from Colombard - we are on the lookout for them here in the UK! Fun Fact: Colombard is one of the core grapes used for the production of Cognac and Armagnac brandy.

Pairing guide
Crisp, tart and utterly delicious, this Colombard from the consistently-excellent Saisons de la Vigne is a tongue-tantalising beauty of a white wine. As for food pairing, this one is best served with light and vibrant dishes - ceviche preparations, homemade sushi, crisp green salads and canapes of goats’ cheese, caviar blinis, or oysters with apple or horseradish will hit the spot. Chicken salads, green vegetable dishes and all kinds of white fish or seafood will be excellent.

Wine region
Vaucluse, France
The Vaucluse wine region is in south-east France. The region is at the heart of the Southern Rhône valley, home to several appellations, including Gigondas, Vacqueyras, and Chateauneuf-du-Pape, famous for mystifying reds made from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre grapes. The Vaucluse region also produces delicious Rosé and white wines from grapes like Clairette and Bourboulenc, every heard of them? The area's unique terroir, which includes rocky soil, hot summers, and heat quelling mistral winds. The slow ripening afforded by this unique climate contributes to an excellent balance of acidity and flavour in the wines.
