Details
Most people know what to expect from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and this is not it. This wine is from two single vineyard sites, Flaxbourne and Breezemere and sees a bit of skin contact, alongside time in barrel giving the wine a bit more texture and body. The result is stunning; a touch of lime and Kiwi grassiness up top is complimented by a honeyed chalky character. The mouthfeel is rich and concentrated with a mineral undertow. Pioneering stuff.

The Eaton family established the well known TerraVin brand in New Zealand in 1999. In a bid to breakaway and focus on quality over quantity, they left the company they set up, and conceived Eaton Family Wines in 2014. It goes without saying that husband and wife duo Mike and Jo are no strangers to the Kiwi wine scene, and Mike's involvement goes back to the early 80's, when the Marlborough boom was just starting up and he gained a reputation for setting up some of New Zealand's most famous and renowned Pinot Noir vineyards. Eaton Family Wines actually consults and oversees vineyard production for growers in the region, a job that looks after around 1500 hectares of land under vine. From this, he selects small, unique and exceptional parcels which him and Jo look to make wines under their own label: Eaton. These small batch projects are hand-tended to by Mike and his two sons, Harrison and Blake. The wines speak for themselves, and make a point of straying far away from the stylistic narrative of Marlborough.

Pairing guide
This wine really calls out to be paired with simple fish or shellfish dishes - delicate fillets of bass, bream, sole, or even salmon will work a treat, as will scallops quickly seared in a hot pan, and served with little more than melted butter and squeeze of lemon. It’s also a great choice for pairing with green vegetables; beans, asparagus, artichoke, and peas will work well, especially if paired with goats’ cheese or tofu.

Wine region
Marlborough, New Zealand
Marlborough is by far and away the jewel in New Zealand's winemaking crown. Situated at the northern tip of the South Island, Marlborough is home to one of the world's most celebrated and popular styles of wine: Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The region surmises the natural beauty that New Zealand boasts and is now home to over 500 wine producers of varying sizes, from epic, large-scale operations to small, boutique craft producers. Naturally, the region is celebrated for its zesty, pungent styles of Sauvignon Blanc, but the wine train doesn't stop there. Marlborough is also celebrated for very high-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (the latter being some of the most underrated wines in the region). You will also find smaller pockets of Viognier, Riesling and Pinot Gris planted here. Marlborough represents almost 75% of all wine produced in New Zealand.
