Details
Colmant's Brut Réserve is a masterclass in power, ripeness and richness, versus a much leaner, more austere character. Notes of toasted nuts and brioche interlace with celery and cut grass. On the palate, this is loaded with bright citrus flavour and a subtle herbal undertow.
The Colmant story is one about a man who fell in love with the Western Cape and decided to make the trip from his home country of Belgium to South Africa, his name is Jean-Philippe Colmant. In his wake, Jean-Phillipe left behind a successful stone manufacturing business. He was keen to swap his industrial roots out for a more passion-driven, romantic way of life amongst the vines, and a life and legacy that he could leave behind for his children. The family settled in the cooler climes of Franschoek, this sub-region of the Western Cape is arguably the best place to cultivate vines destined for 'Cap Classique', South Africa's answer to Champagne. The team took a significant step towards an already budding reputation in 2019 when they appointed Paul Gerber who is one of the country's most celebrated sparkling winemakers. The wines from Colmant are nothing short of delicious and worthy of a closer look by anybody who appreciates classic, elegant sparkling wine.

Pairing guide
Coming straight from the Western Cape of South Africa, this elegant and vivacious sparkler is the ideal choice for sunny day drinking and light lunches with friends. It’s great with barbecued fish fillets, seafood salads, crispy chicken and goujons, and equally good with fried pastries - especially samosas and pakoras - crispy noodles and tofu, and any kind of quiche or savoury pie. Loaded fries will be excellent with this one, as will fresh green salads and spicy oysters. Yum!
