Details
Merlot blends with a smidge of Cabernet Sauvignon in this lovely blend. This is pure and bright, with a nice energy and ripe primary fruit, as well as displaying suggestions of that earthen rusticity that we love about Bordeaux. Delicious stuff.
Bordeaux is Cairo of the wine world, where at the top of the great pyramid sits the kings and queens of the world wine scene, the well known first growth wineries of Latour, Lafite, Mouton, Margeaux and Haut-Brion. The view from the top is mighty, however sometimes you can’t see what is directly below you. The Cazade family are the owners of several established wineries, located in the town of Sauveterre-de-Guyenne, south of Bordeaux. Phillipe Cazade acquired Château Hautes Terres in 2001 along with Château Roc de Cazade. They are producing classic Bordeaux wines with plenty to love. Aside from making classic Bordeaux wines, the winery also has a focus on the environment and protecting the local population of endangered bats as well as a focus on maintaining the rich biodiversity of wildlife within the vineyard. Bordeaux may have the fame from the top, but we are very happy half way up.

Pairing guide
This gorgeously powerful Merlot by Château Hautes Terres is showing grace and complexity - it’s the perfect match for the best beef steak in the butcher’s shop, and is going to pair really nicely with coarse and peppery homemade burgers, lamb shanks, and short ribs, too. We also love this wine with strongly-flavoured mushroom dishes, especially stuffed portobello mushrooms, and it will pair really well with blue cheeses and sharp mature Cheddar.

Wine region

Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux is a wine region located in southwestern France, known for producing some of the world's most coveted and expensive wines. The main takeaway is that Bordeaux wines are a blend of grape varieties. Sometimes called noble varieties, this includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. This ‘Bordeaux blend’ style is emulated worldwide from Australia to South America!
Key regions can be divided into two areas, the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The Left Bank includes Médoc, comprised of sub-regions - Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, and Margaux. These wines are Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with serious tannin structure for the long term. The Right Bank is known for softer wines made of Merlot. The top right-bank area is Pomerol, home to the iconic Château Pétrus with honourable mentions to Saint-Emilion and Fronsac.
