Details
This is a funky little number, full of elegance and purity of fruit that interlaces with a fabulous savoury accent. We have blackcurrants, raspberry and plums combined with a feral, herbal character here. The Cerro Negro is one of a kind and a fantastic expression of Mencía outside of northwestern Spain.

Partners Andres Vergara Brocol and Nito Alegre Soler run the show at Bodegas Baldovar 923 in Valencia, Spain - a wine region that continues to turn heads in the wine world thanks in large part to producers like this. Andres honed his winemaking skills in both hemispheres and across multiple continents; most recently with the legendary Egly-Ouriet powerhouse - a shining light in the grower movement in Champagne. The pair work tirelessly in their vineyards, some of which boast vines up to 80 years old - the older the vine, the more concentrated the flavour. Their mission is to produce wines that faithfully provide a snapshot of the Valencia region. They work with local indigenous varieties, adopting a minimal and pure approach to winemaking. They have even employed the use of 'Tinajas', which is the Spanish term for clay amphora pots which they use both during fermentation, and for resting their stunning wines. The '923' is a reference to the altitude of their winery (in metres), and most of their vineyards follow suit, where altitude plays a crucial role in bringing tension to their wines.
