Details
Out on the patio we sit, this Cabernet Sauvignon is everything that you love about Aussie red wine. This has your eucalyptus, leafy elements as well as blackberry jam on toast which sits perfectly with some gamey kangaroo and a side of spuds. Reschke knows how to put together a wine for rainy days on the patio, that’s for sure!

Origin: It’s believed that the first wines made were in the Médoc region, in the west of France. Mainly Grown In: France, USA, Australia, Italy, Chile, South Africa, Argentina, Spain, NZ… all over, really! Key Facts: Cabernet Sauvignon is truly a globetrotter. Having a home in Bordeaux certainly helped its rapid expansion, as the Bordelaise (those coming from Bordeaux) are excellent marketers of their own product! Now found in almost all wine-producing countries of the world, Cab Sav is traditionally full-bodied, loaded with plenty of dark fruit (think blueberry and blackberry) and backed up by a zing of herbal/grassy kind of flavours. It’s also known for its strong backbone of tannin – that furry, drying sensation you sometimes get with red wines. Cabernet has plenty of it, but is still a smooth talker regardless. Fun Facts: You might have noticed the similarity in names between Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc? They’re related… kind of like 2nd cousins or something.

Pairing guide
Nothing really compares with the depth and boldness of a good Cabernet Sauvignon, and this beautiful bottle from Reschke is a prime example of what the variety does best. You can’t beat pairing this wine with a rare steak drizzled in a punchy sauce, but it’s also delicious with grilled ribs, slow-cooked lamb casseroles, game dishes and bitter greens like kale, broccoli and Brussels sprouts doused in garlic or drizzled with truffle oil. Wild mushrooms, bean and walnut stew and grilled eggplant will also work a treat.

Wine region
Limestone Coast, Australia
The Limestone Coast is a large wine zone in the south-east of South Australia which has six wine regions that comprise the Limestone Coast; Coonawarra, Mount Benson, Mount Gambier, Padthaway, Robe and Wrattonbully. The Limestone Coast is in a unique position with cool winds and ocean waters throughout the summer months thanks to an oceanic event called the Bonney Upwelling which helps keep the vineyards cool during the hot summer months. The Limestone Coast produces a wide range of quality wines from classic Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz in Coonawarra to cool-climate varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Robe and Mount Gambier. It is truly a versatile area and one of the backbones of the Australian wine industry.
