Details
A dark, concentrated wine that still pulls off an elegant finish. There's strong aromatics from Pinotage's classic black and red fruit, a tasty mix of berries and cherries. The palate displays a fresh and fruity succulence - well balanced with silky tannins and lingering flavours of sweet oak spice.
It’s hard to imagine, but there was once a time - and not all that long ago - that South African wines weren’t much of a big deal. However, thanks to hardworking and visionary winemakers like the Gabb family, the Cape’s fortunes and reputation as a centre of viticultural excellence has done something of a 180-degree turn over the past few decades… and the vino coming from this fascinating and varied New World country gives us plenty to shout about. Journey's End is their flagship wine label, and as always they are committed to coaxing the most flavour possible from their stunning vines. It shows the world that this pioneering SA family still have plenty of energy and enthusiasm for what they do best! The vineyards which lead to this spectacular wine are situated on the far side of Stellenbosch, where the land remains just wild enough to keep things interesting, and yet still packed with the rich and complex soils that make this such a beloved corner of the winemaking world. Using bold methods, and never shying away from controversial and surprising blends, the Gabbs keep us all guessing in the best possible way. Long may they continue!

Pairing guide
Who doesn’t love a great Pinotage? This deep and flavourful red from the brilliantly-named Reign of Terroir doesn’t pull any punches, and won’t shy away from being paired with some powerfully savoury dishes, either. Pinotage loves being paired with gamey meats like venison, rabbit, and wild poultry, and also works very nicely with minced beef and gravy - perfect for a cottage pie or a traditional South African bunny chow. It’s a great barbecue wine that also works well with offal, and is superb with grilled sausages.
