Details
56% Rabigato, 21% Gouveio, 18% Viosinho, 5% Donzelinho Branco. We are in love! This is a scintillating white blend and such a good example of what the Douro can do in terms of fresh white wine. Notes of cashew and lime Jelly Babies present themselves, with a lovely peachy, white flower undertow. This is mineral and bright, with a lick of kerosene and sharp acidity (from Rabigato).
Quinta da Pedra Alta is a well-respected wine estate in the stunning Douro Valley wine region of Portugal. The estate is now owned by ex-England Rugby coach Ed Woodward and the team at the helm here is seriously good at what they do. Winemaker João Pires is one of our favourite oenologists in the region and we tend to recognise his wines from a mile away. João favours natural, wild yeast fermentations for all of his wines, and is making arguably some of the best white wines in the region. He prefers a "fresher" style, so picks his fruit a bit early and everything here is on the restrained side of things, with slightly lower alcohol levels than you might expect from the region. Matt Gant - an Aussie winemaker - also plays a role in the winemaking side of things at Pedra Alta and between him and João, the estate is fast becoming one of the finest in the entire valley - now that's saying something! João and the team have just recently created an exclusive blend of wines just for us here at Good Pair Days.

Pairing guide
Bright, refreshing and perfectly representative of the quality and distinction of superb Portuguese winemaking, this delicious Rabigato blend certainly produced plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ at Good Pair Days HQ this month! All that zippy, zesty character makes it an obvious choice for green vegetable dishes and pasta recipes putting green beans, peas and goat’s cheese in the spotlight. Iberian favourites like grilled sardines will do the trick nicely, too, and it’s also excellent with homemade quiches, risotto, chicken salads, bass or bream, and simple barbecued seafood. What more could you possibly ask for?

Douro, Portugal
The Douro is a wine region located in the north of Portugal, along the Douro River. It is known for producing rich and full-bodied red wines, the best-known of course being the fortifieds known as Port. The region is characterised by its steep vineyard terraces, known as "socalcos," and its unique blend of traditional and modern winemaking techniques. The Douro has a long history of winemaking, dating back to the 18th century, and its wines are widely considered some of the finest in the world. Picturesque and high-quality wines? A wine region not to miss!
