Details
The Merchant Chardonnay is that classic balance of stone fruit and acidity. The nose has nectarine and yellow peach fruit drive with undertones of cashew with the palate continuing the theme. There is a bright whack of acidity with the wine showing all fruit.
It isn’t too often you have wineries that are located in the suburban sprawl of a capital city around the world, and yes it may only be Adelaide, but Patritti Wines are located just 12 km from Adelaide CBD in Dover Gardens. Patritti’s story started with Giovanni who was part of the steady stream of migrants from Italy to Australia in the 1900s when he boarded a ship from Genoa to arrive in Port Adelaide in 1925. Just a few years later, Giovanni had some vines planted and was producing dry and fortified wines. Today, those original vineyards have been lost to the urban sprawl, however the winery is managing two historic urban vineyards nearby which includes the 1907 Marion Vineyard located right next to the Marion public swimming pool. Patritti have also established two vineyards in McLaren Vale and are producing a wide range of wines under six different labels. The commitment to the urban winery is highlighted by Friday nights at the winery which are well worth a visit!

Pairing guide
We absolutely love the racy freshness of this gorgeous Chardonnay from Patritti, which offers no shortage of character in the glass and mountains of food pairing potential. We adored pairing this wine with meatier fish dishes - halibut, cod, and barramundi are always a great option with this wine - and it’s also going to work wonders with stuffed chicken breast, lobster and crab dishes, and with savoury pastries and pies filled with creamy vegetables or white meats. It’s also a delicious wine to pair with a less spicy Indian curry, and will work well with spicy Malaysian specialties, too.

Wine region
Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges
of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
