Details
Viognier is one of those grapes that can get a bit too ripe if you let it hang about on the vine too long, so Alex Byrne from Noisy Ritual picked these grapes (from the revered Blue Pyrenees Vineyard in western Victoria) early. Then he drove them back to the winery in Melbourne and let the ferment happen naturally in barrel. The result is a lovely, fresh, frisky, but still plenty juicy style with waxy ginger and peach characters, a nutty saline edge, and a crisp finish.
Meet Alex and Cam. Two wine-loving mates who one day found a big old concrete wine fermenter under Cam's house. True story. Alex was pretty busy at the time as Lethbridge Estate's assistant winemaker, but with access to great fruit, they bought half a tonne of grapes, grabbed some mates and stomped on them. What was a messy, lo-fi, fun experiment proved a success. The wine was delicious, and 'Noisy Ritual' was born. Nowadays, you'll find what is likely to be the first 'Urban Winery' in Melbourne, located in Brunswick East. Yep, they stomp on the grapes in the hip suburb and welcome anyone keen to get involved. If you want to sit it out and sip on a wine at the bar, you can do that too. We love this no-fuss 'underground' approach. 'Noisy Ritual' shows the range and diversity of Victoria through their awesome, delicious wines that are not limited or tied to a single location. Good people, great wine, delicious food and awesome music - it seems that's all it takes to create wine in the big smoke!

Pairing guide
Elegant, luxurious and beautifully aromatic, this Viognier from Noisy Ritual stole our hearts from the very first sip. Like most Viognier wines, this one is arguably best suited to be paired with richer seafood dishes - especially crab linguine with chilli flakes, buttered lobster or Moreton Bay bugs, and seared scallops in a beurre blanc sauce. However, it’s also a marvellous wine to crack open when Asian salads and Vietnamese chicken dishes are on the menu, and it will also work very well with couscous dishes featuring almonds and dried fruits, and curried turkey or creamy pork chops and mashed potatoes.

Wine region

Pyrenees, Australia
The Pyrenees wine region is located in the state of Victoria in Australia. It is known for producing a range of high-quality red and white wines, particularly Shiraz and Chardonnay. The region is named after the Pyrenees mountain range, which forms its eastern boundary. The wine-growing area extends from the town of Avoca in the north to Moonambel in the south and is situated at an altitude of between 200 and 600 meters above sea level. The region's cool climate and diverse soil types are well-suited to grape growing and contribute to the unique character of the wines produced here.
Cool fact: the region is home to the "Big Red," a life-sized sculpture of a red grape that serves as a popular photo spot for visitors to the area, so if you find yourself in the area, be sure to check it out!
