Details
A more supple and perhaps sophisticated expression of Malbec - not the heavy, bruising style, but more fruit-focussed and as a result, more fun! High toned, with violet and lavender, sitting above black cherry and blueberry jam. Creamy but fresh, this is a real treat.
The Bodega of Mattias Riccitelli is, in many ways, the quintessential modern Argentine winery. Working with vineyards situated 1100 metres above sea level, crawling their way up the foothills of the Andes, Riccitelli is determined to further explore the potential of Argentina’s premium wine regions, and uncover the true nature of this remarkable terroir. However, while so many of the wineries working in the Mendoza region are looking to expand and automate much of their operation, Riccitelli is enthused by an altogether different approach. His method of winemaking puts enormous emphasis on attention to detail, hand-harvesting the grapes to maintain the integrity of the bunches, and working with the lowest possible yields to ensure absolute expression in every glass. Concrete vats are utilised for maturation, guaranteeing crispness and uninterrupted fruit flavours on the palate, and the stunning diversity of the soil types in the mountainous region is kept in mind every single step of the way. All in all, Mattias Riccitelli demonstrates that the Argentine wine scene - having already ascended so quickly over the past two decades - can still reach ever greater heights of excellence.

Pairing guide
Malbec never fails to get our taste buds tingling, and one of the joys of this juicy wine is finding the perfect dishes to pair with it. This bottle from Mattias Riccitelli is going to pair really nicely with all kinds of Spanish tapas dishes, especially those involving rich tomato sauces, red meats, and ingredients like black olives and quality cured ham. Steak is a natural pairing, especially when served with slightly piquant sauces, and lamb meatballs would also be an excellent choice. Malbec also has an affinity with potato dishes, so get creative with your spuds!
