Details
Viognier has long been a champion variety in France, it’s like a Chardonnay with a little bit of extra oomph. This is a trademark example with plenty of punchy peaches and apricots, plenty of texture and baked apricot and cream palate. This is a full bodied white wine for those that like to live on the edge.
The wine world is a big, wide world that can be difficult to navigate from time to time. Luckily there are people in the industry like Camille, that are happy to open the doors to wineries that might otherwise be missed. La Vicomté is one of those wineries, located in the Languedoc they have a host of grapes to utilise and the wherewithal to make smart, modern wines that are ideal for the Australian market. The beauty of the Languedoc is that there are less restrictions about what wines they can make, so the winery portfolio is extensive. They have a range of different wines, from classic French varieties like Viognier, Vermentino and Grenache Gris, to more fascinating wines like their ‘Cépage Resistant’ range which focuses on varieties like Floréal and Souvignier Gris, that are sustainable, rely less on pesticides and help preserve the biodiversity of the soil. Beside the good planet story, they also make great wine across the board for you to enjoy at home.

Pairing guide
We’re huge fans of this beautiful and aromatic Viognier, which offers plenty of florality alongside a rich and luxurious character. As such, it’s especially well-suited to shellfish dishes featuring crab, lobster, scallops and Moreton Bay bugs, and will also be excellent with tuna belly, smoked salmon, chicken in creamy sauces, and juicy cuts of pork belly with Chinese spices. Thai green curries, carbonara, mac ‘n’ cheese and fish cakes are also highly recommended.
