Details
A Pinot Noir from a blend of different vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, this starts a little smoky and chunky, so make sure you give it plenty of air (big glasses, a decanter or both). Dark fruit spectrum but light in body, this whispers with charm and then asserts itself on the finish. Traditional Pinot Noir with an edge of seriousness.
Jono and Damon Koerner are the innovative brothers behind this relatively new label that has been making waves across the country for a few vintages now. They grew up in the Clare Valley, but have since spent time working and studying around Australia and overseas. Clare is their homeland, and all wines under the Koerner label come from fruit grown within a 500m radius of Watervale in the Clare Valley, with the majority coming from their family vineyard, Gullyview. This vineyard has been owned and managed by Christine & Anthony Koerner (aka Mum & Dad), for over 40 years. Along with these wines they also make LEKO and Brothers, companion labels that use fruit from across South Australia. Their winemaking philosophy is simple – to make wines that reflect their place in the world, wines that are made in the vineyard. Managing the grapes organically, picking them not too early, not too late, and using only those grapes and a dash of preservatives make the wines. The wines are light, fresh, textured and well structured...as well as being highly drinkable! with high drinkability. These are two brothers well worth watching!

Pairing guide
It’s no secret that we’re pretty serious about our Pinot Noir here at Good Pair Days, and this juicy number from Koerner definitely elicited no shortage of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahhhs’ around GPD HQ this month! As for food pairing, it’s as versatile as they come; we loved it with a lamb tagine and a beetroot salad, but you’ll get great results from any combination of red meat and savoury sauce - goulash, bourguignon, and cottage pie will all make this wine shine. Delicious with cured meat, heartier red fish dishes, and root vegetables, and also good with Indian curries or sausage dishes.

Wine region

Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges
of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
