Details
There's such an impressive spread of different varieties in the Hither & Yon range, just like this plump, blueberry-drenched McLaren vale Malbec. It tastes of blue fruits, grilled nuts, and sweet soy, with all sorts of interesting violet/purple fruit flavours and aromas. Medium to full-bodied, there's a real sense of hearty purpose here - it's a substantial wine of real interest.

While the family vineyards date back to 1980, Hither & Yon’s journey began in 2012 from the capable hands of the Leask brothers. Richard is the outside man, the farmer and maker; Malcolm is the inside guy, director and creator. The aim is to make better wines with a lighter footprint. To do this, Hither & Yon apply regenerative farming methods that’d make Costas of Gardening Australia proud. Practices include and are not limited to increased plant diversity between rows, the use of beneficial fungi brews, and planned cattle grazing. The result is improved soil structure for better carbon capture and water retention; all this translates to superb fruit for the wines, not to mention some very happy sheep and cattle. We could go on about Richard and Malcolm’s miracle work, but being certified sustainable and carbon neutral says it all. In their own words, ‘We make wines that are good for the environment and feel great to drink!’ Cheers to that!

Pairing guide
Whether you’re preparing a traditional festive feast or simply seek a banging red wine to have with your dinner, a good bottle of Malbec is never a bad option to reach for. Hither & Yon’s release is a characterful number, perfect for pairing with roast red meats, barbecued ribs and homemade burgers, and especially with slow-cooked joints of ham or gamier meats like venison and ‘roo. Pastrami and cured meats will also work well, as will vegetarian lasagna, chilli con carne and bolognese. Delicious!
