Details
Wow! This wine hits you right between the eyes... in a good way, of course! Bright purple in the glass, perfumed on the nose and delicious in the mouth. Loads of black cherry, plum and black pepper. Medium bodied with fleshy black fruits and a superb balance of acid and tannin crunch. An excellent young wine, already drinking well. Top stuff.
While the family vineyards date back to 1980, Hither & Yon’s journey began in 2012 from the capable hands of the Leask brothers. Richard is the outside man, the farmer and maker; Malcolm is the inside guy, director and creator. The aim is to make better wines with a lighter footprint. To do this, Hither & Yon apply regenerative farming methods that’d make Costas of Gardening Australia proud. Practices include and are not limited to increased plant diversity between rows, the use of beneficial fungi brews, and planned cattle grazing. The result is improved soil structure for better carbon capture and water retention; all this translates to superb fruit for the wines, not to mention some very happy sheep and cattle. We could go on about Richard and Malcolm’s miracle work, but being certified sustainable and carbon neutral says it all. In their own words, ‘We make wines that are good for the environment and feel great to drink!’ Cheers to that!

Pairing guide
Carignan is a stunning grape varietal, and one which is becoming increasingly available as modern wine fans seek out more traditional and rustic wine styles. Deep and flavourful, this wine from Hither & Yon will pair really nicely with rich poultry dishes, especially turkey served in a punch sauce, or duck covered in a sticky glaze and with a fruity jus. It’s also a top match for roast pork, liver, and deliciously savoury beef dishes like brisket.
