Details
Stolzenberg 'Pride Mountain' is an astonishing vineyard perched on a ridiculous slope on the sides of the Mosel river. Here, Riesling vines sit on precarious terraces with soil that is just slatey rocks. You know what? Pressure makes diamonds, and that challenging world translates into ridiculously concentrated Riesling grapes and, in turn, an astonishing wine. Powerful, juicy, crystalline, spicy, all of it. Sky high acidity, but super intense fruit flavour too. Wowsers.
Heymann-Löwenstein wines come from organically farmed vineyards on the back-breaking slopes of Mosel, Germany. In the cellar, slow and steady is the name of the game – fruit is crushed and pressed with a long but gentle 12-hour cycle. This oxidative and somewhat risky winemaking style is very hands-on, requiring regular tastings to ensure the wines don’t stray from balance. Afterwards, the juice undergoes a slow natural ferment in stainless steel and large-format oak. The stakes are high with this gentle approach, but the results are truly gratifying. Today, this approach is in the capable hands of daughter Sarah Lowenstein and long-standing winemaker Kaddi Höhler. Heymann-Löwenstein’s Riesling consistently outperforms other Rieslings in its category and punches well above its weight. All in all, a wonderful expression of Riesling from a classic region.

Pairing guide
It was love at first sip when it came to this superstar Riesling, which offers some amazing food pairing opportunities for gastronauts in search of new taste sensations. It’s particularly well-suited to spicy seafood dishes - crab, lobster in particular - or with creamy chicken and pork pasta creations and savoury pastries and pies. Spicy Thai green curries and Indian dishes like pasanda will also work very well, especially if made with juicy king prawns or chunky white fish.

Wine region

Mosel, Germany
Mosel is arguably Germany's most famous wine region and is home to some of the best white wines on the talent made from the mighty Riesling grape variety. Here you will find some of the steepest vineyards in the world planted on the banks of the Mosel River, which plays a crucial role in ripening the grapes, acting as a mirror to reflect sunlight off the water back onto the steep, slate vineyards, warming up the soils and ripening the berries. Riesling is produced in a range of styles and sweetnesses here, from bone dry, to lusciously sweet. If you are in the market for world-class Riesling, then look no further than this stunning region.
