Details
A bright yellow, cloudy bottle of fun, made from Yellow Muscat. The nose shows off this muscat character straight away - grapey and floral, it has notes of lemonade fruit, red apple and bubble tea. The palate is bone dry however - lean and tangy, and very refreshing. A real joy to drink!
The Slovenian 'natural' wine scene is a small but emerging one. So most of the interesting winemakers seem to know each other pretty well! Janko Bogatic has been working in vineyards since the age of 10, however has only just begun releasing wines under his own label. For a long time he grew grapes for his friend and winemaking mentor, Nick Gee - of Heaps Good Wine Co fame. He certainly looks up to Nick for inspiration and in many ways mirrors his winemaking ethos. There's a lot of respect not only for the vineyards (sustainably farmed, only hand picked etc), but for the integrity of the grape varieties themselves. Many producers in Slovenia look to 'international' varieties like Sauvignon and Cabernet, but Janko believes in the authenticity of the grapes that have grown in his country for centuries. The results speak for themselves - this is a fun label with a bright future.

Pairing guide
Slovenia has a long and fascinating winemaking history, and vintner Gabernik 23 is keeping that history alive with this beautiful Pét Nat, which exudes an amazing brightness and flavour profile as a result of the incredible Muscat grapes used in its production. This sparkling wine is going to pair perfectly with a massive array of spicy foods - from chilli-spiked Thai broths and noodle dishes, to fiery Indian curries and Sichuan specialities. It’s also a great wine for pairing with battered fish, cauliflower pakoras, and all kinds of fresh and raw shellfish.

Wine region
Stajerska, Slovenia
Stajerska is a wine region located in eastern Slovenia, bordering Austria to the north and Croatia to the south. It’s one of the country's most important wine-producing regions, accounting for 40% of total production! Crisp white wines are Stajerska's claim to fame. The region's unique microclimate, soil composition, and modern winemaking techniques all contribute to the distinct character of the wines produced there. Although the neutral and high acid Laški Rizling (Welschriesling) is the dominant variety in Stajerska, in recent years, Furmint, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay are increasing in popularity!
