Details
The first thing that is apparent in this wine is the poised balance of creamy texture and red fruit sweetness that conjures images of royals indulging in strawberries and cream while watching Federer cut an effortless backhand past his hapless opponent on the Wimbledon grass. This textbook Bandol Rosé has classic red fruit, creamy persistence and tangy acidity which all combine to produce the Federer of wines. Game, set, match!
Domaine du Gros Noré is 17 ha of vines situated in the prime sector of Cadiere d’Azur of Bandol. Bandol, by the way, is considered the first growth of Provence producing the most serious and well-known, Rosé (and Reds) of Provence. Domaine du Gros Noré vines have an average age of 30 years, some of which is in the coolest part of Bandol. This beautifully sited domain has been certified organic since 2020, producing vivid fruit without the need for weed killers or pesticides. There’s a great emphasis on ploughing to maintain optimum soil structure. Working the soil has a multitude of benefits, from better water ingress and retention to encouraging deeper roots to form; this ultimately results in higher-quality concentrated fruit. These grapes are then hand-harvested and brought to a vibrating sorting table to ensure only the best quality fruit is transferred for vinification. Domaine du Gros Noré produces exceptional long-lived Rosé and two well-regarded reds. The appellation laws in the region require a minimum of 50% Mouvèdre as the main variety but also expect to find Cinsault, Grenache and Clairette in these legendary wines. We recommend two bottles, one for now and one for the cellar!

Pairing guide
There is a lot to love about high quality rosé and the Gros Noré has to be right up there. There’s no getting away from the fact that this wine definitely hits the high notes of flavour and distinction, and it’s a glorious choice for pairing with classic Mediterranean dishes of seafood, fish, pork, lamb, chicken, vegetables and more. This wine loves garlic, will match up beautifully with olives, and will be very happy alongside a simple dish of grilled sardines on toast, or something fancier like salmon en croûte, gala pies, and a salade Niçoise.
