Details
The 2016 Edition of Château la Mouline is a blockbuster from one of the highest rated years. The wine is Merlot dominant, with the other varieties all having their place. A nice blend of new and old oak, this Bordeaux blend shows ripe berries with a nice smoky finish.

Château la Mouline is a winery owned by the Coubris family with a history dating back to 1920. The winery estate, which covers 22 hectares of vines, is located in the sub-region of Moulis. Moulis is located in the left bank part of Bordeaux, just above the main region of Margaux. The region suffered a decline post phylloxera with a reduction of vines planted, however there are some modern estates here that are producing classic Bordeaux blends of high quality. Château la Mouline has made steps to become a modern winery and are now certified organic in the vineyards and a philosophy to not add any sulfites during the winemaking process. The difference here is that the winery only makes three wines, La Moulinette, Totem La Mouline and this wine, the Château la Mouline. The winery usually has Merlot as the key variety with the usual addition of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Pairing guide
This stunning Merlot Blend from Château la Mouline really dials up the intensity, bringing a striking tannic profile to the palate before revealing layer upon layer of fruit and spice. It goes without saying that this is a classic wine to pair with steak dishes - especially the fattier cuts, like sirloin - as well as with game and offal creations. Wild mushrooms and eggplant are always happy being paired with Merlot Blend, and it’s also going to be delicious with shepherd’s pie or a vegetarian equivalent.

Wine region
Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux is a wine region located in southwestern France, known for producing some of the world's most coveted and expensive wines. The main takeaway is that Bordeaux wines are a blend of grape varieties. Sometimes called noble varieties, this includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. This ‘Bordeaux blend’ style is emulated worldwide from Australia to South America! Key regions can be divided into two areas, the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The Left Bank includes Médoc, comprised of sub-regions - Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, and Margaux. These wines are Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with serious tannin structure for the long term. The Right Bank is known for softer wines made of Merlot. The top right-bank area is Pomerol, home to the iconic Château Pétrus with honourable mentions to Saint-Emilion and Fronsac.
