Details
Touriga Nacional is famous for its great colour, and this lively Portuguese red is such a vibrant purple red. No surprise that Carlos Raposo's Impecável is a vibrant wine, too, with this pure, plum juice palate that walks the line between being too juicy and yet with fine, just-right acidity and fine minerality. A moreish red from a rising Portuguese star.
Carlos Raposo might be young, but he is quickly making a mark as one of the rising stars of Portuguese wine. Carlos first came to the world's eye after working alongside the Portuguese premium wine hero Dirk Niepoort. He left Niepoort in 2018 to do his own thing, making a range of wines demonstrating just how exciting the new wave of Portuguese wines can be. Carlos is a champion of the Dão region, scouring this sometimes-forgotten area for old vine fruit to make a small selection of uniquely local wines centred around indigenous varieties. With maturation primarily in a concrete tank or older oak, wild ferments and minimal additions, these uniquely representative wines have an unquestioned charisma and energy.

Pairing guide
Portugal’s signature red wine style has stolen the hearts of bold and bodacious vino fans across the globe, and this beautiful Touriga Nacional is sure to satisfy even the most demanding palate. It’s a great wine for pairing with hearty roast poultry dishes - especially chicken thighs given a spicy rub - as well as homemade beef or bean burgers, albondigas meatballs, sticky ribs and peri peri dishes. Roast eggplant and zucchini, ragu sauces and polenta with cheese and sage would also work brilliantly.

Wine region
Dão, Portugal
The Dão wine region in Portugal is a wine lover's dream come true. With its unique terroir of granite soils and cool, humid climate, the wines produced here have a distinct mineral character that will tantalize your taste buds. The region, immediately south of the Douro wine region, is particularly famous for its red wines made from the Touriga Nacional grape variety, which are known for their intense flavour and high tannins. You'll find many small, family-run wineries in the area, where you can taste a variety of wines and learn about the winemaking process from the locals. The Dão wine region is also an important part of Portugal's cultural heritage, many of the wineries have a long history dating back to the 19th century. The region is becoming increasingly popular among wine enthusiasts, and it's a must-visit destination for anyone interested in discovering the diversity of Portuguese wines.
