Details
This is another fantastic addition to the Alma de Mecenas range. A ripe, dark-fruited Tempranillo with layers of black cherry and plum. Lovely graphite-y tannins take hold, through to a juicy finish complete with purple florality.

Origin: Spain. Mainly Grown In: Spain, Portugal, Argentina. Key Facts: You love the bold and the beautiful; the kind of beauty that is confident, self-assured, secure and doesn’t need to spend extra time in the mirror for a self-guided pep talk in order to look mega hot on the dance floor. Meet Tempranillo, a Spanish grape with a confident backbone of tannin balanced with sweeter red fruits like cherries and strawberries and with an alluring kick of spice. Tempranillo is praised both in its youth as well as being able to age. In fact, in Rioja, they have an entire grading system based on the time it spends ageing in oak. The more time in oak, the more expensive, and the more you will notice flavours becoming more leathery and savoury. It is important to remember, however, that more time in oak does not necessarily mean it is better quality. Fun Fact: 88% of the Tempranillo plantings across the globe are found in Spain.

Pairing guide
In the rolling hillscapes of verdant northern Spain, Tempranillo wines reign supreme. This stunning bottle from Alma de Mecenas is a gorgeous example of what that time-honoured terroir can produce, and it’s a fantastic red wine for pairing with rich, hearty homemade meals. We loved it with smoky lamb stews, but it’s every bit as good with Spanish classics like braised chorizo in red wine sauce, meaty paella, barbecued brisket and pork casserole with pimenton. Anything with plenty of smoked paprika will be more than welcome here, and it’s also great with stronger cheeses and leaner beef and lamb dishes, too.
