Details
This is a charming account of Sangiovese, from a producer that specialises in European grape varieties down under. Notes of thyme and crunchy red fruit dominate, with hints of cigar box and earth - pretty typical Sangiovese character - nicely balanced and elegant.

Situated in the exciting sub-region of Heathcote in Australia's state of Victoria, you will find the impressive wines of Tar & Roses. These guys initially set up their estate out of love for Nebbiolo, believing that they had found some of the best soils around for cultivating this Italian powerhouse grape. However, the team also diversified and also produce delicious wines from a host of different grape types. Don Lewis and Narelle King spearheaded this project. Armed with invaluable winemaking experience from some of Europe's finest wine regions, the pair returned to Australia with the taste of the Mediterranean in their mouths. Tar & Roses pride itself on reflecting Spain and Italy as well as putting their own Aussie twist on these world-famous varieties. Sadly, Don passed away in 2017 but his legacy lives on through the lens of these delicious wines - not to be missed.

Pairing guide
When the summertime rolls around, few red wine styles hit the sweet spot quite as successfully as Sangiovese. It’s the ultimate Tuscan (or in this case Aussie) taste sensation, and a wine which is best served with the kind of comforting Italian fare we all know and love so well. Mushroom and tomato-based pasta sauces are going to be brilliant here, as are Tuscan bean stews, roast pork knuckle or topside of beef with aromatic herbs, and whole roast poultry with sage and onion stuffing. Tagines, chilli con carne, lasagna and bolognese are also clear winners with this wine - give it a try yourself!

Victoria, Australia
Victoria is the second smallest state but is home to more regions and individual wineries than any other state in Australia. This is thanks to the diversity of regional and micro climates, that allow for the every imaginable wine style under the sun, from stylish and refined Chardonnay (Beechworth) to brooding, finessed Shiraz (Heathcote); intense and complex Pinot Noir (Macedon Ranges) to unique and decadent fortified (Rutherglen), you’ll find a wine to suit any occasion from the diverse regions of Victoria.
