Details
Should you ever wonder what Aussie Shiraz from the Barossa Valley tastes like, then look no further than the 'Wild Bill'. This brilliant red is locked and loaded with notes of black pepper spice, blueberry and baked black fruits, hemmed in by smokier notes of kindling and earth. This is glossy and silky, opulent and balanced, with a lovely herbal, clove accent on the finish.

From the team behind the epic Teusner winery, we bring you Smokin' Barrels. Teusner is the brainchild of Kym Teusner and Mick Page, self-confessed 'GSM' (Grenache, Mataro & Syrah/Shiraz) fans who came together over a pint in the pub when they overheard a conversation on another table about an old vineyard that was facing the axe. In 2001, after that fateful pint, the pair set up Teusner after paying over the odds for the 80+-year-old vineyard in question. Kym and Mick have gone on to do beautiful things working with a number of passionate grape growers across the region. Their reputation and approach to nurturing relationships with these growers have naturally given Teusner and now Smokin' Barrels access to some of the best old-vine vineyards in the Barossa. The winemaking approach here is very hands-on, a philosophy which argues that the human touch is far better than that of a machine.

Pairing guide
Everybody loves a top-notch bottle of Shiraz with their dinner, and this hugely expressive bottle is right up our alley. It's an excellent pairing for all kinds of grilled red meats - ranging from a sirloin steak with a spicy rub to sticky ribs, homemade burgers, lamb chops and game - as well as slow-cooked lamb or beef casseroles, Mexican-inspired stews with meat, cheese and beans, and dishes making a star ingredient of black or puy lentils. Chilli con carne, lasagna, moussaka and shepherd's pie will be delicious here, as will dishes showcasing red peppers, harissa, squash, roast aubergine, mushrooms and courgette.
