Details
Local varieties Viosinho, Rabigato and Gouveio come together in this exceptional white wine that sees a clear, yet judicious use of oak. Yellow fruit dominates, with pineapple, custard, bay leaf and toffee notes coming to the fore. This is taut and linear, finishing with peony and white florals. Delicious.

Quinta da Pedra Alta is a famous, well-known wine estate in the stunning Douro Valley wine region of Portugal. The estate is now owned by ex-England Rugby coach Ed Woodward and the team at the helm here is seriously good at what they do. Winemaker João Pires is one of our favourite oenologists in the region and we tend to recognise his wines from a mile away. João favours natural, wild yeast fermentations for all of his wines, and is making arguably some of the best white wines in the region. He prefers a 'fresher' style, so picks his fruit a bit early and everything here is on the restrained side of things, with slightly lower alcohol levels than you might expect from the region. Matt Gant - an Aussie winemaker - also plays a role in the winemaking side of things at Pedra Alta and between him and João, the estate is fast becoming one of the finest in the entire valley - now that's saying something!

Pairing guide
We just can’t get enough of these Portuguese white blends, which bring deliciously brisk character alongside a delectable punch of flavour and freshness. It’s a stunning wine to enjoy alongside all kinds of grilled fish, seafood stews, roast chicken or barbecued pork dishes, and will also work very well with Iberian classics like ajo blanco, seafood or chicken paella. Green vegetable dishes, sardine pasta and Italian favourites like spaghetti alla vongole will also work a treat.
