Details
The Maison Johanès Boubée team are masters at showing terroir and this classic Bordeaux red has all the usual notes with graphite and dried herbs kicking things off and behind these savoury notes sits a layer of cassis and blackberry along with a nice tannic grip.
The French wine scene can be somewhat of a minefield at times, all we really want is a supplier that makes wines from all across the country while still displaying regional and sub-regional typicity.. Simple right?!? Well, enter Maison Johanès Boubée which is a winery that has succeeded in the French landscape, while relatively unknown outside its borders. The winery has access to all the goodies around the country and aside from an impressive winemaking team, it also has employed sommeliers to taste each wine to confirm it meets that all important terroir feel of each region. The winery is a nod to the old-school way, where you didn’t need to boast a fancy label to sell a bottle of wine and the juice inside is the most important part. We have tasted through a large range of their wines and are very impressed with the overall quality in each bottle. The La Cave D'Augustin Florent range represents the focus on single regions, whether it be Cahors, Burgundy, Jurançon or Minervois, there will be something for everyone.

Pairing guide
Crafted in one of the world’s most beloved wine regions, this deeply flavourful and character Cabernet blend is a real red wine lover’s red wine. All that punch and power makes it the ideal choice for pairing with rich red meats - duck legs with black pudding, bavette steaks with mushrooms, or lamb shanks and roasted root vegetables and onion gravy. Dishes featuring truffle and strong cheeses will also work beautifully, and it’s going to taste fantastic with smoked meats and cheeses, offal dishes and anything featuring game such as venison, partridge or wild boar.

Wine region
Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux is a wine region located in southwestern France, known for producing some of the world's most coveted and expensive wines. The main takeaway is that Bordeaux wines are a blend of grape varieties. Sometimes called noble varieties, this includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. This ‘Bordeaux blend’ style is emulated worldwide from Australia to South America!
Key regions can be divided into two areas, the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The Left Bank includes Médoc, comprised of sub-regions - Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, and Margaux. These wines are Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with serious tannin structure for the long term. The Right Bank is known for softer wines made of Merlot. The top right-bank area is Pomerol, home to the iconic Château Pétrus with honourable mentions to Saint-Emilion and Fronsac.
