Details
The Pierre de Lune or Moonstone, is the next level in Jurançon white wines. In this blend, Gros Manseng takes the lead with Petit Manseng playing second fiddle. The wine is extremely expressive with a broad nose dominated by orange peel, light spices and nectarine and peach which results in a wine that smells sweet, but is definitely dry. The palate is textural with a carry over of spice and peach with a moderate finish due to some time in oak.
Domaine Nigri is located in the heart of Jurançon, a wine region located in the South-West of France off the main highway between Tarbes and Bayonne. The region has been an AOC since 1936, with a focus on white and dessert wines made from local varieties like Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng and it has forged a reputation for producing stunning wines for those in the know. Chief amongst the wineries forging a path is Domaine Nigri and the man at the helm, Jean- Louis Lacoste. The Lacoste family have been in charge of the estate for four generations, with Jean-Louis taking the helm in 1993. The family restored the original cellar which dates back to 1685 and have put a lot of love and care into the winery which is evident to see in each wine. The flagship wine is the ‘Confluence’ which features two little known varieties, Camaralet and Lauzet and is found dotted around restaurants all across the South-West . There are two other white wines in the range and three dessert wines, which include the ‘Hors Piste’ which is only made in the best of years.

Pairing guide
Gros Manseng isn’t the best-known wine style out there, but it’s growing in popularity with international wine fans and not without good reason. This wonderful release from Domaine Nigri ticks all the right boxes when it comes to character and flavour, and will pair very well with richer fish dishes like halibut and monkfish, as well as with avocado salads, pork chops, pasta favourites like spaghetti carbonara, and spicy Asian dishes with plenty of umami-rich soy and fish sauces.
