Details
75% Merlot blends with 25% Cabernet Sauvignon before spending a year in French oak barriques. This is rustic and delicious, with lovely dusty tannins and a focus on red fruit. Expect notes of worn leather and saddle to complement the sweet oak spice on the finish. Yum!

Château Le Peyruche, nestled in the picturesque countryside of the Bordeaux region in France, is a recent, exclusive addition for us here at Good Pair Days, following a tasting of these fantastic wines in the spring of 2024. Spanning over 50 hectares of meticulously tended vineyards, Château Le Peyruche cultivates a selection of noble grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc - typical of Bordeaux, of course. The estate's vineyard practices prioritise sustainability and respect for the land, employing organic and biodynamic techniques to ensure the health of the soil and vines. The wines of Château Le Peyruche are celebrated for their elegance, depth, and complexity. From velvety reds to crisp whites, each bottle reflects the unique terroir of the Côtes de Bordeaux. These wines are made in a fairly classic style, with a focus on primary fruit character, fringed by subtle oak influence. We found these wines to be of outstanding value, so when we tasted them there was only one thing for them, and we hope you enjoy them now as much as us!

Pairing guide
When it comes to food-friendly red wine blends, this Merlot-based release from one of our favourite Bordeaux wineries is an absolute winner. You’ll want to keep things fairly classic with this wine - it calls out for juicy cuts of sirloin or ribeye steak with a peppercorn sauce, roast dinners of chicken, leg of lamb or beef with a glossy gravy and all the trimmings, or recipes which make fine use of wild mushrooms and garlic potatoes. Boeuf bourguignon, coq au vin and European casserole classics like goulash and stroganoff will also hit the spot perfectly. C’est magnifique!

Wine region
Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux is a wine region located in southwestern France, known for producing some of the world's most coveted and expensive wines. The main takeaway is that Bordeaux wines are a blend of grape varieties. Sometimes called noble varieties, this includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. This ‘Bordeaux blend’ style is emulated worldwide from Australia to South America! Key regions can be divided into two areas, the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The Left Bank includes Médoc, comprised of sub-regions - Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, and Margaux. These wines are Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with serious tannin structure for the long term. The Right Bank is known for softer wines made of Merlot. The top right-bank area is Pomerol, home to the iconic Château Pétrus with honourable mentions to Saint-Emilion and Fronsac.
