Details
This Nebbiolo takes on a true and characterful garnet colour in the glass. The nose is bright and alive with typical notes of dried rose petals, red fruit and toasted spice. True to form, there is a healthy, ripe set of tannins here with richer, concentrated red fruit and bundles of freshness. The finish is long focused and elegant. Brilliant Barbaresco.

When it is done well, there are few things in the wine world more satisfying than Nebbiolo. With its traditionally pale red hue, incredible grip and racy acidity, it is safe to say that this noble grape delivers some of the finest wines on the planet. The team at Casali del Barone have spent decades understanding the intricacies of Nebbiolo and has been producing benchmark, high-quality Barolo and Barbaresco for a long, long time. Overseen by experienced winemaker Daniele Ress, Casali del Barone has gained recognition not just in Italy, but overseas and here in the UK, picking up awards from some of the industry's best competitions. There are century-old arguments as to who should wear the crown of Italy's best red grape. In one camp we have Sangiovese; the most widely planted grape variety in Italy which is at home of course, in Tuscany. And then to the north, we have Nebbiolo, the historical protagonist in the finest wines of Italy's northwest. At Good Pair Days, we love both, we don't associate ourselves with such arguments, but we do love what the Casali del Barone crew are capable of when it comes to Nebbiolo!

Pairing guide
Nebbiolo is one of those beautifully dry red wine styles that never fails to make a big impression at the dinner table, and this stunning bottle from Casali de Barone is no exception. We loved it alongside classic steak dishes - especially juicier steaks like ribeye, served with a peppercorn or wild mushroom and truffle sauce. It’s also going to be delicious with braised dark meats, duck legs, pork shank and roast turkey, and works very well indeed with vegetarian dishes featuring mixed beans, Chinese 5-spice and margherita pizza.

Wine region
Piedmont, Italy
The Piedmont wine region in Italy is a magical place known for producing world-class wines. The region is bordered by the Alps to the north and the Apennine Mountains to the south, and it is characterized by rolling hills and a diverse landscape. The climate in Piedmont is generally cool and wet, with warm, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. This climate is well-suited to grape growing offering slow and steady ripening conditions which lead to high-quality and expressive wines. Piedmont is most praised for its red wines, particularly Barolo and Barbaresco, which are made from the Nebbiolo grape. Barbera and Dolcetto are other celebrated reds of the region, and as for its white wines, Arneis, Moscato d'Asti and the rare Nascetta. Piedmont is also famous for its flavorful truffles, often used in local dishes, and pair beautiful with its regional wines.
