The sublime wines of CasalFarneto have been on our radar for a number of years here at Good Pair Days and we are super excited to bring them exclusively into the UK. Based in the Marche region of eastern Italy, these guys are specialists largely in white wine, working principally with Verdicchio and a number of other grape varieties including Montepulciano and Sangiovese (both red). It is worth noting that Verdicchio is synonymous with some of the finest white wines in Italy, and nobody does it better than the talented crew and CasalFarneto. In the province of Ancona, CasalFarneto tends to around 35 hectares of prime vineyard estate. Throughout, you will find the indigenous Farnetto oak trees from which the company takes its name. The team have a particular focus on organic viticulture as well as sustainable practice from grape to glass, employing the use of modern technology and combining that with a very traditional, rustic style of winemaking. These guys are at the top of the game.

Pairing guide
We can’t get enough of this deliciously juicy Lacrima from CasalFarneto. Elegant and extremely gluggable, it’s a brilliant match with juicy duck breasts or duck leg stews (cassoulet, here we come!), lamb dishes, and rustic bean and lentil dishes. We love pairing it with braised beef dishes, tomato-based pasta classics, roast chicken dinners, and even fatty fish like roasted salmon. Yum!

Wine region
Marche, Italy
You’ll find the Marche wine region in central Italy, stretching along the eastern coast - bordering to popular Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Umbria and Abruzzo - Got your bearings? Marche is known for producing indigenous varieties like Trebbiano, Verdicchio, Montepulciano, and Sangiovese. The region is cradled by the Apennine Mountains, enjoys a consistent Mediterranean climate, and its proximity to the Adriatic Sea provides ideal conditions for sustainable viticulture! Some of the most famous wines from this region include Oasi degli Angeli Kurni and Villa Bucci Verdicchio. The Marche wine region also boasts a long winemaking heritage that spans thousands of years with influences from Etruscans, Romans and Lombards way back when!
