Details
This wine comprises two of Italy's most prolific red grapes: 65% Montepulciano blends with 35% Sangiovese. Blue fruit, cracked black pepper and black olive flavours come to the fore. This is chunky and chewy, with a lovely integration of tannin and a bright injection of acidity undoubtedly coming from that Sangiovese.
The sublime wines of CasalFarneto have been on our radar for a number of years here at Good Pair Days and we are super excited to bring them exclusively into the UK. Based in the Marche region of eastern Italy, these guys are specialists largely in white wine, working principally with Verdicchio and a number of other grape varieties including Montepulciano and Sangiovese (both red). It is worth noting that Verdicchio is synonymous with some of the finest white wines in Italy, and nobody does it better than the talented crew and CasalFarneto. In the province of Ancona, CasalFarneto tends to around 35 hectares of prime vineyard estate. Throughout, you will find the indigenous Farnetto oak trees from which the company takes its name. The team have a particular focus on organic viticulture as well as sustainable practice from grape to glass, employing the use of modern technology and combining that with a very traditional, rustic style of winemaking. These guys are at the top of the game.

Pairing guide
You really can’t beat a good Montepulciano blend when it comes to meal times - there’s something about this classic Tuscan wine style that immediately sends our senses off to sunnier climes! This charming red from CasalFarneto ticks all the right boxes, pairing beautifully with traditional Italian pasta dishes featuring tomatoes, olives, pine nuts and cured pork, as well as with anything given a hefty serving of parmesan. Pesto rosso, grilled and slow-cooked pork or lamb dishes, vegetable soup, roast poultry and family favourites like lasagne, chilli con carne and cottage pie will also provide beautiful matches to explore.

The region is cradled by the Apennine Mountains, enjoys a consistent Mediterranean climate, and its proximity to the Adriatic Sea provides ideal conditions for sustainable viticulture! Some of the most famous wines from this region include Oasi degli Angeli Kurni and Villa Bucci Verdicchio. The Marche wine region also boasts a long winemaking heritage that spans thousands of years with influences from Etruscans, Romans and Lombards way back when!
