Details
What a wine. Inspired by the great Merlot-based blends of the Right Bank of Bordeaux, this is luscious, silky, plush and rich. It smells of small red berries, pink peppercorn and hints of cocoa, mulberry and vanilla pod. It's a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and has ample acidity and tannin from the Cabernet cousins to ensure a long life ahead of it.
Picardy is an icon in the Australian wine scene, having been making high quality Western Australian wines since 1993. Founded by Bill and Sandra Pannell (who, amongst others, have a son Steve, of the famous SC Pannell) as a second venture, after they established the legendary Moss Wood in 1969. Fair to say that great wine defines this family. Everything is done meticulously, from the initial site selection, to the hand-chosen oak barrels, to the care that is taken in assembling the fine, elegant, cool climate wines. A sustainable approach has guided their hand for a long time now, and the wines are pure, precise and often thrilling. It's always a pleasure to taste these wines and their depth of flavour. Great stuff.

Pairing guide
Plush, juicy, and oh-so-gluggable, this moreish Merlot from Picardy is exactly the kind of wine we love to drink on a Sunday lunchtime with a mountainous plate of home-cooked food, and our friends and family gathered around. It’s a perfect roast dinner wine, so bring it out with your roast chicken, beef joint, pork belly, or turkey, and enjoy it with all the traditional roast veg trimmings. It’s also delicious with garlic mushrooms, steak and chips, pork loin, blue cheese, and lamb with a fruity jus, and just as good with lentil and bean dishes, especially when bolstered with mango or fig chutney.

Wine region

Pemberton, Australia
Pemberton, WA is a region of great beauty. Vivid green forests, wetlands, rivers, waterfalls, and towering karri trees, you name it! While nature is tough to follow, the rolling vineyards, 200km south of Perth, is a close second!
The Pemberton wine region is cooler than Margaret River, making it possible to produce excellent quality Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc as well as fresher styles of Chardonnay. Pinot Noir has shown great promise too! The region is relatively small and young (established in 1977) with a handful of wineries, but it has wasted no time building a respectable reputation at wine shows and restaurants. Some of the most well-known wineries in the Pemberton region include Picardy, Pemberton Wines, and Wills Domain.
