Details
A 'Lo-Fi' Pinot Noir but incredibly clean. Forced to explore other regions in 2020, here is a once off Yarra Valley vino made by Tessa Brown (who made wine at Kooyong Estate for over a decade or so) proving her deft hand at Pinot. Subtle cherry friendly fruits, this wine offers so much more than obvious Pinot Noir varietal characters. All florals, not spice, showing a silken tapestry of pure fruit expression. Delicate, lightweight but seriously intertwined Pinot all about 'pinosity'. This wine is pretty, it's satin, it's chic... here is everything you want in fine-boned elegant Pinot Noir. Enjoy.

Beechworth is arguably Victoria's finest wine growing region, and a place that these two 'Vignerons' have made a home in. Architect Jeremy Schmölzer & winemaker Tessa Brown, fell in love over a decade ago, and forged an incredibly arduous, expensive, and dedicated 'retirement' plan to become not only a family, but to be first generation grape growers. And while still a young couple, our wine 'grower producer' friends, combined their unique skillsets, and found a picturesque, yet fertile, high altitude site in Beechworth's cooler subregion, of Stanley. This magical snowy vineyard is known as 'Thorley', and was planted in 2013. Like a 'yet-to-be-discovered' famous artist, 'Thorley' is already starting to produce wines of uncompromising quality. The couple do everything themselves, with decisions founded in equality, from the winemaking to cooking dinner. Tessa, tends to the vineyard with her whip smart secateurs skills, boasting a palate better than anyone we know, and is an emasculating weapon managing a fully fledged winery. Jer, has a reputation for being meticulous, he is exacting in what he wants in the style of their wine, and has an incredible eye for detail - from a state-of-the-art vineyard that is waiting to be featured in an architecture magazine. Add their yet-to-be-built winery and cellar door, it'll be a spot we will be visiting in the coming years.

Pairing guide
Light yet far from insubstantial, elegant yet utterly gluggable, and packing in a delicious array of hedgerow flavours, this delightful Pinot Noir is about as food-friendly as they come. We especially enjoyed this wine with vegetarian dishes involving root vegetables, fennel, and bitter greens like kale and broccoli - broccoli and garlic pasta dishes, particularly - but it’s also a top pairing for duck, lamb stews and tagines, rare steak, and funky brie and camembert.
