Details
Rustic and bold, this Merlot has some serious confidence right off the bat. It is packing serious weight, loaded with spice, plus a 'back up, chest out' backbone of tannin. Ripe plum, black cherry, bay leaf, and cedar-like spices engage the palate. A grippy, earthy finish completes the picture.

Origin: It’s believed that the first wines made were in the Médoc region, in the west of France. Mainly Grown In: France leads the way here, with Bordeaux the big one. Also California, South Australia, central and northern Italy, plus Argentina. Key Facts: No matter how mer-little you know about wine, chances are you’ve heard of Merlot (pronounced “Mer-low”). Merlot is like a Golden Retriever; dependable (it ripens reliably well), lovable (especially for its chocolatey and soft plummy flavours), and able to get along with pretty much everyone (a champion in some of the most prized blends on the planet). Merlot is so approachable and smooth that it is often described as tasting “velvety”. Not sure when you last licked some velvet, but we did, and the Merlot definitely tasted much better than velvet. However, velvety is a fair way to describe the soft cushion-like comfort of how Merlot rolls across the palate — yum! Fun Fact: Because Merlot wine is so sensitive to light, Merlot based wines tinge orange on the rim. The orange rim is the telltale sign of Merlot vs. Cabernet Sauvignon.

Pairing guide
This gorgeous Merlot from Norfolk Rise is a delightfully juicy wine, bursting with all those hedgerow flavours we know and love from this varietal. As such, it loves being paired with rich, fatty meats which go well with berry sauces, especially duck and lamb, and loves a bit of sweet ‘n’ sour, too - so give it a try with Chinese-style duck or pork dishes. Braised short ribs, Moroccan lamb and apricots, chicken stews and tagines, fennel sausages, mac ‘n’ cheese… this food-friendly wine can stand up to all these classic dishes, and many, many more besides!

Wine region
Limestone Coast, Australia
The Limestone Coast is a large wine zone in the south-east of South Australia which has six wine regions that comprise the Limestone Coast; Coonawarra, Mount Benson, Mount Gambier, Padthaway, Robe and Wrattonbully. The Limestone Coast is in a unique position with cool winds and ocean waters throughout the summer months thanks to an oceanic event called the Bonney Upwelling which helps keep the vineyards cool during the hot summer months. The Limestone Coast produces a wide range of quality wines from classic Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz in Coonawarra to cool-climate varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Robe and Mount Gambier. It is truly a versatile area and one of the backbones of the Australian wine industry.
