Details
A rich, youthful Tempranillo, very vibrant in the glass. The nose is powerful, with notes of cooked red berries, roasted plums, some jam and then vanilla and clove. With some air the wine turns spicy and chocolatey, showing lots of richness. Dense and satisfying.
Origin: Spain. Mainly Grown In: Spain, Portugal, Argentina. Key Facts: You love the bold and the beautiful; The kind of beauty that is confident, self-assured, secure and doesn’t need to spend extra time in the mirror for a self-guided pep talk in order to look mega hot on the dance floor. Meet Tempranillo, a Spanish grape with a confident backbone of tannin balanced with sweeter red fruits like cherries and strawberries and with an alluring kick of spice. Tempranillo is praised both in its youth and with oak age in Spain. In fact, they have a full grading system based on the time it spends ageing in oak. The more time in oak, the more expensive, but also the more you will notice flavours becoming more leathery and savoury. Fun Fact: Tempranillo pairs AMAZINGLY with BBQ'd meats, so it's the perfect red wine for your BBQ!

Pairing guide
We love a great Tempranillo here at Good Pair Days, and those maestros of the vineyard over at Mesta definitely know how to impress with this classic Spanish varietal. Naturally, it’s a top pairing for rustic Iberian dishes of pork, paprika, capsicum, and beans, but it’s also a great match for all your favourite Mexican and Tex-Mex takeaway go-to dishes. Burritos, chicken fajitas, beef tacos - if it can be served in a flour tortilla and covered in cheese and guacamole, it’s going to get the job done. It’s also a great choice for polenta and other corn dishes, and will work well with a barbecue, too!

Uclés, Spain
Uclés is a wine region located in the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha, 100km east of Spain’s capital city, Madrid. Although the Uclés is dominated by larger producers, making mostly simple fruity styles of Tempranillo and Verdejo, the region shows lots of potential for its high elevation (up to 900m above sea level) and dry conditions, ideal for premium grape growing.
The soils in Uclés are primarily composed of clay and limestone, which provide good drainage and help the grapes ripen to optimal maturity. The region also has a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters, which helps to produce wines with good acidity and complex flavours. Some of the well-known wineries in the region include Bodegas y Viñedos Uclés, Bodegas y Viñedos Real de Aragón, and Bodega San Isidro.
The Uclés region is known for producing high-quality exceptional value red wines made from the Tempranillo (known locally as Cencibel), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Garnacha and whites including Verdejo, Chardonnay, Moscatel de Grano Menudo, Sauvignon blanc, and Macabeo. We expect bright future for this region.
