Details
This is deep in colour, wonderfully fragrant and sensual. It layers fruit over spice over oak texture, and the result is truly delicious! Plenty of black cherry and blueberry, with charcoal and vanilla and dried earth on the finish. The oak adds texture and a hint of vanilla, and really rounds the wine out. Alluring and supple - great drinking.

Ribera del Duero seems like a region ready to embrace a new world, or at least a new generation, and the husband and wife team at Magna Vides certainly tick this box. Pablo Arranz and Andrea Sanz took control of a family vineyard in 1999, one that was already over 80 years old. This was their beginning, but the first wines wouldn't come from it for another 6 years - a clear mark of dedication to their revitalisation process and their passion for quality. The vines are well embedded - large, with magnificent arms, like small trees, and the fruit they now bear is truly wonderful. The wines are made with care of course, but with a focus on the local terroir, and a commitment to only make wines from grapes that are endemic to the region. This new generation are challenging the old ways and going for a unique identity allowing the terroir to show more than the winemaking. This will be difficult, however they are ready to make this happen, and committed to the journey!

Pairing guide
The Spanish soul of Tempranillo always comes through beautifully in wines making great use of this varietal, and Magna Vides’ creation is no exception. This gorgeously flavourful red is ideal for pairing with deeply savoury, Spanish or Mexican-inspired dishes; it’s delightful with classic Spanish pork stews, Mexican beans, corn dishes, chilli con carne, or homemade fajitas and beef tacos. It’s also a great match with tomato-based Italian classics - lasagna, spaghetti bolognese, and even a margarita pizza will work well!

Wine region
Ribera del Duero, Spain
Ribera Del Duero is the top wine region in Castilla y León of Northern, Spain. It’s home to some of the best red wines in the world, namely the beloved Tempranillo! The region's vineyards are situated along the banks of the Duero River, which provides the perfect soil and climate for growing high-quality grapes. The wines produced in Ribera Del Duero are known for their deep colour, rich flavour, and firm persistent tannins. Tempranillo accounts for 75% of all red production, followed by Garnacha. In whites, Albillo makes up 70% of production, with Albariño and Palomino in tow. Just like the famous Rioja region, Ribera Del Duero also has ageing requirements for their reds Crianza must be matured for at least two years, Reserva wines are aged for at least three years and finally, the granddaddy Gran Reserva? These must be aged for five years (two of those years in oak) before release!
