Details
Chenin Blanc is the best known white variety in South Africa, producing wines that traverse the full spectrum from light and bright to rich and dense. This sits somewhere in mid field, trending lighter. Tastes like a large slice of melon dipped in orange juice on a hot summer’s day. Think lemon, green apple and a hint of savoury green pea.

Exchange students Charlie Brain & Walker Brown fell in love with South Africa on a backpacking trip in 2014. During this time a wandering dog the locals called “Lubanzi” matched them stride for stride over the course of a six-day, hundred-mile trek. On the final night of their trip, Lubanzi disappeared after his job was done guiding Charlie and Walker to their destination. The pair returned to South Africa in 2016 with the vision of creating top-notch wines produced and distributed by sustainable farming practices, and a socially conscious mindset. The Lubanzi wines are all certified Fair-Trade with 50% of all production profits going to the Pebbles Project - a non-profit initiative that helps to educate and support families that work directly on South African vineyards. Charlie and Walker have a clear goal to bring people and wine together under the banner of social sustainability and responsibility. They are not alone in this part of the world, as we are increasingly seeing more and more socially sustainable projects across the country, this is something that we are always keen to support here at Good Pair Days. Oh, and their wines are pretty delicious too!

Pairing guide
It’s impossible not to be swept away by this swoon-worthy Chenin Blanc, especially when paired with some delicious homemade food! We especially enjoyed this aromatic white with equally aromatic southeast Asian fare - coconut and lime curries, Chinese lemon chicken, sweet ‘n’ sour pork or tofu and Pad Thai would all be excellent options. Chicken and lemon tagine, roast cauliflower or cauliflower soup, and all kinds of white fish and seafood dishes would also do the job perfectly.
