Details
Light in colour, but with no shortage of flavour, this Gippsland Pinot Noir is built to impress. Plenty of floral characters fill the aroma, mixing with red berries and faint spices. Look for cherry and raspberry with cinnamon and vanilla. Fine, gentle and persistent.

A family owned and run vineyard, winery and cellar door, Lightfoot and Sons is located in Victoria’s premier wines region, the Gippsland Lakes district. It specialises in the popular varietals Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Shiraz, exploring their potential when grown in this world-renowned terroir. Established in 1995 by Brian and Helen Lightfoot, their legacy continues with sons Ron and Tom, who currently manage the family’s vineyard and winery. Keen to keep a close eye on every aspect of their operation, all the Lightfoot family wines are 100 percent Estate grown, made and bottled. Tom Lightfoot is keen to continue embracing traditional wine-making methods, successfully blending them with more experimental techniques. Their wines reflect the origins of the vineyard‘s location, in the diverse Gippsland Lakes District, while expressing Myrtle Point’s cool maritime climate and unique geology. While the location doubtlessly plays a major role in the character of this superb Aussie wines, the Lightfoot family believe that sustainable viticulture is the secret to their success, with minimal intervention preserving both freshness and purity of fruit, as well as ensuring all that wonderful expression comes through in every glass.

Wine region
Gippsland, Australia
The Gippsland wine region is so big it is its own zone and region. The region stretches from Victoria’s high country in the north to Bass Strait in the south, and it occupies 400km of coastline from the east of Melbourne to stretching eastward to the VIC/NSW border. The hero varieties in the region are unmistakably Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Gippsland is mainly flat, with complex weather systems and many microclimates throughout. The climate is mild in West Gippsland (close to Melbourne), with a warm, dry autumn. East Gippsland has a cool, semi-maritime climate with low rainfall, while South Gippsland is cooler still, with strong maritime influences in Bass Strait. Gippsland vineyards are predominantly small family-owned vineyards and wineries. Bass Phillip is one of the original flagbearers for the region, but a new generation has emerged, pushing the boundaries and producing highly sought small-batch wines. Some producers to look out for are Entropy Wines, Momento Mori, Patrick Sullivan, William Downie, and Xavier Goodridge.
