Details
Bright and vibrant, this wine greets you as soon as you twist off the cap. Inviting, like a backyard pool on a warm summer day, it's easy and effortlessly refreshing. Packed with ripe and fun flavors like grapefruit, white nectarine, honeydew, and a long limey finish with a salty kick, it's the wine version of a margarita!

Origin: Northern Portugal. Mainly Grown In: Northern Portugal's Vinho Verde region and Galicia, Spain. Key Facts: Loureiro is mostly grown in northern Portugal where it plays a vital role in the region's most well-known wine: Vinho Verde. To the north of that, across the border in Spain, small pockets of this grape variety also crop up, however, it very much plays second fiddle to the region's more prolific variety, Albariño, which it is sometimes blended with. This grape is capable of producing both young, clean and fresh styles of white, but it does well with a bit of lees ageing, which adds body, weight and complexity, making for a more serious style. Whatever the weather, wines made from Loureiro are always wonderfully crisp, and any Sauvignon Blanc or Riesling fans should take a closer look at this gem from Portugal. Fun Fact: Loureiro wines bottled under the Vinho Verde label will often have a slight spritz to them, making for a seriously fun, refreshing drinking experience.

Pairing guide
When it comes to food-friendly whites we just can’t get enough of, few varieties compare to Portugal’s iconic Vinho Verde. It’s the perfect wine to pair with grilled oily fish - especially sardines - and white fish served with a lemon or herb dressing. Seafood ranging from crab, lobster, Moreton Bay bug, sea urchin and abalone will work beautifully, and it’s also great with simple chicken salads, green salads, and green vegetables with sheep’s cheese and olive oil. Divine!

Wine region
Vinho Verde, Portugal
Vinho Verde is a wine region located in the Minho province of Portugal, known for producing light and refreshing wines that are perfect for warm weather. The region's name, which means "green wine," refers to the young age of the wines, which are typically consumed within a year of their production. The wines are typically made from indigenous grape varieties, such as Alvarinho and Loureiro, and are characterised by their low alcohol content, high acidity, and slight effervescence. There is a fascinating tradition of having the vines climb up high so you can pick the grapes while standing however this has mostly faded out now.
