Details
This organically grown beauty is a blend of juicy Tempranillo and rustic Monastrell. Plummy, spicy and oh-so easy drinking! It has a savoury nose of smoky bbq, clove and pepper with lots of juicy plum, violet and raspberry flavours. It has a moderate body with soft but noticeable tannins. Each sip feels soft and smooth, but has just enough grip and spice to give it a sassy kick! Great stuff!
Origin: Rioja, in central-northern Spain. Mainly Grown In: All over Spain, but also a few places in Victoria! Key Facts: Imagine taking the classic variety Tempranillo and darkening the fruit spectrum and polishing off some of the rustic edges. Making it whip smart, tightening things up and making it into a really flashy young thing. That's essentially what these blends are - they have the soul of Tempranillo, but they set off on a different path, a path that is equally delicious, just a little bit different. Loads of spicy, berry-fruit muskiness here, tied up with mouth-filling tannins. Sometimes richer, sometimes lighter, always good drinking. Fun Fact: Tempranillo is gaining popularity and hectares in Australia and has increased in plantings seven fold since 2001.

Pairing guide
Made from luxurious and flavourful organic Tempranillo and Monastrell grapes, this gorgeous bottle from El Abuelo really captures that Iberian passion for great red wine. It’s going to pair fantastically with roasted and barbecued pork - the rougher and fattier the cut, the better in our opinion - and with pulled pork preparations served with pickles and slaw. Pretty much any grilled meat will hit the spot, and it’s also a top match for homemade meat or lentil burgers, pizza, smoked cheeses, and root veggies cooked with aromatic Mediterranean herbs.
