Details
Bright, beautiful and attention grabbing, this wine makes you feel like no-one else is in the room. The floral fragrance leaps out and dances with rose, violets, pink pepper and tuberose on sweet red berries. Aromatic is an understatement. Silky. Playful. Racy acidity. Gimme more.
Pierre Chermette is a legend of Beaujolais, consistently making great wine. Tending to many vineyard plots, Pierre knows how to capture the full spectrum of what Gamay can do. These wines are never linear in quality from entry to expensive, they are all high quality at every price point. Wine is made with wisdom and authenticity to place. Using sustainable agricultural practices, everything is done by hand, with grapes picked as concentrated and ripe as possible. Although they are traditional in the cellar, there is nothing gritty or green in these Beaujolais flavours. The style is full, silky and concentrated, and wines that both drink well early and can age remarkably well. Fleurie is a 'cru' area in Beaujolais, that loads of great producers make wine from. “Fleur,” means “flower” in French, and indeed the wines of Fleurie are characterized by a distinct floral note so powerful you'd think its synthesised. Think a posie of violets smashed in your face. That is Fleurie.

Pairing guide
This rather splendid Gamay from Domaine du Vissoux couldn’t be more classically French if it tried, and was clearly made with food pairing perfection in mind. Simple dishes of steak and chips are hard to beat with this wine, but you’ll also get fabulous results from meat-and-fruit combos, such as duck with plum sauce, fruity Moroccan tagines, and roast turkey with cranberries. Cantonese food tends to work very nicely with this kind of Gamay, and you can’t go wrong with a herby Toulouse sausage, a beef stroganoff, or a chicken paprika dish, either!

Wine region

Beaujolais, France
Beaujolais is the land of fruity, easy-drinking reds! This wine region in France is known for its light-bodied, juicy Gamay wines that taste of cherries, red berries, and sometimes even bubblegum. With ten different Beaujolais crus to choose from, there's a wine for every taste. But the real party happens when Beaujolais Nouveau is released each November. This wine is made from freshly harvested grapes and is ready to drink just a few weeks later. So grab a bottle (or two) and let the celebrations begin! However, Beaujolais is also a hotbed for the natural wine movement and some of the industry's most pioneering names have come from this region and produce some exciting, complex wines.
