Details
The 2017 vintage of Château Marsac-Seguineau is a careful blend of Merlot (65%), Cabernet Sauvignon (23%) and Cabernet Franc (12%). This is a more moderate example of Bordeaux red, restrained in alcohol and showcasing raspberries, blackberry and a slight note of toasty oak and cigar box.

Château Marsac-Seguineau is located in one of the most iconic regions of Bordeaux, Margaux. Margaux sits north of the main city of Bordeaux as you work your way up the famed left bank of the Garonne River, it is home to the iconic Château Margaux as well as 20 other wineries that date back to the original 1855 Bordeaux classification. Marsac-Seguineau is owned by famed bank and Tour de France team, Crédit Agricole, because why wouldn’t a French bank own wineries? The wine is usually a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc and is made without a huge addition of oak, usually spending only 12 months in barrels. The vineyard is 10 hectares that sits on the iconic Garonne gravel and limestone, two soil types that go hand in hand with Bordeaux reds. These wines have been aged carefully in Bordeaux for the last few years and are only available in extremely short supply.

Pairing guide
A great bottle of Merlot Blend is hard to beat at dinner time, and this release from the Château Marsac-Seguineau range proves that point with real panache. It’s a top-notch steak pairing wine (especially if said steak comes drizzled in peppercorn or wild mushroom sauce), and will work beautifully with slow-cooked cuts of beef, game and lamb, too. Bitter greens like kale will pair very well, as will potato dishes, garlic vegetables, wild mushrooms, truffled charcuterie and roast Mediterranean vegetables.

Wine region
Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux is a wine region located in southwestern France, known for producing some of the world's most coveted and expensive wines. The main takeaway is that Bordeaux wines are a blend of grape varieties. Sometimes called noble varieties, this includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. This ‘Bordeaux blend’ style is emulated worldwide from Australia to South America! Key regions can be divided into two areas, the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The Left Bank includes Médoc, comprised of sub-regions - Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, and Margaux. These wines are Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with serious tannin structure for the long term. The Right Bank is known for softer wines made of Merlot. The top right-bank area is Pomerol, home to the iconic Château Pétrus with honourable mentions to Saint-Emilion and Fronsac.
