Details
From the idiosyncratic Californian champion of Rhône varieties, Randall Grahm (AKA the ‘Rhône Ranger’), comes this delicious rosé predominantly based on Grenache, with a little Cinsaut and friends thrown in for good measure. The palest dusty pink, it’s soft and inviting, with strawberry and cream fruits with a lift of minerality, a dry but silky palate, and a fresh chalky finish. Yum with a capital USA!

By seeking and blundering, we learn. In the 80s, Randall Grahm’s mistake was attempting to replicate Burgundy in Central Coast, California. Thankfully, the best of us learn from life’s lessons; Randall persevered and discovered the massive potential of Rhône varieties in California. And in 1986, they got their due – Bonny Doon Vineyard released the 1984 Le Cigare Volant, a triumphant homage to a classic Southern Rhône red. The wine continues to be the flagbearer today. The discovery led to a series of impressive innovations. Randall and Bonny Doon Vineyard became the first to popularise Rhône varieties in California, they were the first to promote screwcaps for premium wines, and first to embrace labelling transparency. The success of these initiatives propelled Bonny Doon Vineyard to unfathomable heights. As of today, the focus is back on producing terroir-driven wines, with a lighter more sustainable approach. Bonny Doon Vineyard is back to what they do best and it's all about Rhône, just like Randell planned all along.

Pairing guide
A truly beautiful rosé wine from California’s Central Coast, this bottle packs in loads of complexity beneath bright splashes of strawberry flavours. It’s a top wine for pairing with Moroccan and Middle Eastern flavours - pomegranate-flecked salads, chicken or vegetable tagine and falafel especially - and will also work a treat with roast pork, charcuterie, and dishes which bring together balsamic vinegar, fresh herbs and white meat. Salmon steaks, big juicy prawns and tomato-based pasta sauces are also highly recommended.

Wine region
Central Coast California, United States
Central Coast California is a large and diverse wine region that stretches from San Francisco to Santa Barbara, covering over 250 miles of coastline. The climate and terrain varies greatly, with cooler climates in the north and warmer in the south, making it suitable for a wide variety of grapes. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are ostensibly the smart choice in the cooler pockets, while Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varieties are popular in the warmer regions. Notable sub-regions include Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Lucia Highlands, Santa Ynez Valley, and Paso Robles. Central Coast California is an oasis for lovers of quality wine, home to many small, boutique wineries where quality supersedes quantity.
