Details
Albariño as a sparkling wine is not too common, especially outside of Rías Baixas, however the team at Bodegas Eidosela have put together a lovely example. Made without any addition of sugar, this bone dry sparkling is fresh and zesty with lemon and yellow apple fruit drive, a crisp and creamy finish that will be sure to delight.

Despite there being a wealth of internationally respected vintners jetting in and out of the Spanish wine regions every day, parting their wisdom and tinkering in a range of wineries across the country, sometimes it’s the locals who know best. That’s the thinking behind Bodegas Eidosela, a Rias Baixas winery located in the subregion of Condado de Tea. This organisation is run entirely by a group of local growers who have the soil of their vineyards in their blood, and who know this land better than anybody else. The result? Characterful, impressively expressive wines which capture the essence of the region, and which are quickly gaining an army of devoted followers. While the winemakers of Bodegas Eidosela go to great lengths to respect the winemaking practices of their region, their philosophy includes not shying away from combining tradition with state of the art technology. Thus, their wines are precise and yet all handled with an artisanal touch that provides plenty of charm and personality.

Pairing guide
Irresistibly dry and thrillingly crisp on the palate, this brut sparkler from Eidosela is a stunning release that’s destined to become a regular favourite. It’s an excellent bottle to pop open when canapes and savoury pastries are on the menu, and you’ll find it pairs brilliantly with prawn cocktail, seafood crostini and light bites ranging from bruschetta to homemade hummus with crudites. Seafood like oysters and scallops will work especially well, and it’s also wonderful alongside crispy chicken, sushi, tonkatsu sandos, yakitori skewers and all kinds of fried rice and noodle dishes, too.

Wine region
Rías Baixas, Spain
Rías Baixas is a region in northwestern Spain that is responsible for Spain's greatest success story when it comes to white wine: Albariño. The region is broken down into a number of sub-zones, each with their own unique influence on Albariño. However, they all largely share one common characteristic: proximity to the Atlantic. In fact, some of these coastal vineyards are so close to the ocean that the salty sea air quite literally settles on the fruit, sometimes giving the wines a wonderful saline, salty tang. Whilst this is quite a wet region, there is plenty of sunshine for ripening grapes and many of the vineyards are planted on granitic soils, offering up firm, fresh acidity to these wines. Albariño is commonly known for its refreshing character with notes of crisp apples and citrus, but there is plenty of experimentation at play in the region and it's not hard to find examples from more experimental winemakers.
