Details
A complex and intriguing South African blend. It starts out with a mix of nectarine, quince and lifted jasmine flower. Then the palate is firm and yet restrained, with quartz and salt intermingled with the fleshy fruit. It is dry and tangy, with a subtle creaminess playing off against the acidity.
It’s hard to imagine, but there was once a time - and not all that long ago - that South African wines weren’t much of a big deal. However, thanks to hardworking and visionary winemakers like the Gabb family, the Cape’s fortunes and reputation as a centre of viticultural excellence has done something of a 180-degree turn over the past few decades… and the vino coming from this fascinating and varied New World country gives us plenty to shout about. Bee’s Knees is one of the Gabbs’ latest ventures, and - as ever - they’re exploring new terroirs, new combinations, and new ways of getting the best from their stunning vines. It’s a thrilling new twist for the Journey’s End winery for wine fans to explore, and it’s one which shows the world that this pioneering SA family still have plenty of energy and enthusiasm for what they do best! The vineyards which lead to this spectacular wine are situated on the far side of Stellenbosch, where the land remains just wild enough to keep things interesting, and yet still packed with the rich and complex soils that make this such a beloved corner of the winemaking world. Using bold methods, and never shying away from controversial and surprising blends, the Gabbs keep us all guessing in the best possible way. Long may they continue!

The blend of Chenin Blanc and Viognier in this stunning wine results in a truly luxurious, thrillingly delicious combination, and it’s fair to say it’s fast become a favourite in our dining room! This gorgeous wine is going to pair brilliantly with pork dishes, stews which bring together chicken or pork and fruit, shellfish, and grilled crab or lobster with garlic butter. It’s also going to be a reliable pairing for roast poultry, meaty white fish dishes, and a wide range of green vegetables and strong cheeses, too.
