Details
What a wine - so much flavour and texture and pure matter in here. Fruity and yet of the earth. Gravelly yet soft. Pure yet brooding. The soil shines through with rocky minerality, whilst the Barossa fruit stands firm with plum, cherry and waves of creaminess. Complex notes of iodine and meat show on the finish. Great stuff.
What do you get when you cross the business smarts of a wealthy Argentinian wine lover, an amazing plot of Western Barossa Valley land, and a nature-driven biodynamic approach to contemporary winemaking? The answer is something akin to Alkina, the renowned winery of Alejandro Bulgheroni that has been making some serious waves in the past twelve months. Alkina has grown in both production and reputation, spearheading a winemaking method in one of Australia’s most respected regions that is transforming the way we understand 'naturally made wine', and resulting in truly fascinating vintages. Over sixty years after its initial planting, the vines of Alkina have reached bonafide heritage status, packing in mountains of expression which only a fool would mess with. That, and a deep passion for understanding, nurturing, and coexisting with the beautiful landscape, is the essence of the Alkina philosophy. The organic and biodynamic methods aren’t an exercise in bandwagon jumping; they’re a way to explore the ancient stones and soils of the vineyards, and to capture everything that makes this corner of the valley so very special.

Pairing guide
We’re long-time lovers of a good GSM, and Alkina’s take on this classic blend is a sheer delight to sip alongside some tasty dishes. Like most GSM, this bottle is best paired with big, robust meat creations - sirloin steak, brisket, ribs, chops, whole roast poultry... you get the picture. Red capsicum, mushroom dishes, root vegetables cooked with aromatic herbs (especially sage and rosemary), strong cheeses and olives will all also make food pairing magic happen.
