Details
A wine that balances purity with power! There are three forthright varieties here, but they work in tandem rather than fighting each other. Riesling brings line and structure, Pinot Gris added texture and Gewurztraminer adds spice and fragrance. The nose starts with full-on floral notes - honeysuckle, daisy etc, and then moves onto notes of ripe pear and gingerbread. There's a creamy mid-palate, but it maintains focus and poise on the finish with long fine acidity.

It goes without saying that we’re huge champions of quality Aussie wine here at The Wine Gallery, and there’s no small number of reasons for this. We talk at length about the drinkability of Australian wines, the innovative approaches of its younger winemakers, and the alternative methods gradually taking over the scene down under… but it’s also worth remembering that one of the reasons this country produces such top quality vino, is due to the fact that there’s just so much land to take advantage of and explore. Swinney is a great example of this: for four generations, the Swinney family have been making their beautiful wines way out in the Frankland River Region, from a farm spread across 2,500 hectares of remote grape growing land. Isolated, cut off from the rest of the country, and incredibly peaceful, it’s the kind of winemaking operation you really couldn’t find anywhere else on earth. It’s tempting to wonder why a family would settle in such a remote place in order to grow grapes and produce wine… but once you check out the fascinating mineral composition of the soil, and the unique topography of the Swinney farm, you start answering all your own questions. It should come as no real surprise that the latest generation of Swinney winemakers are pretty obsessive when it comes to soil types, loam depth, and identifying the very best micro-terroirs on which to grow their interesting grape varietals, but the results are so bloody good, you can absolutely excuse the nerdiness behind every bottle. All in all, Swinney proves to be a real Australian delight of a winery, which packs in mountains of character and demonstrates the sheer versatility of this country we call home. Good on them! Pairing guide
This delicious white blend from Swinney brings together some of our absolute favourite central European grape varietals and gets them playing off each others’ strengths within the bottle. The results are, frankly, spectacular… and we were particularly excited to see how this fantastic release works when paired up with some truly tantalising flavours. If you’re looking for a wine to serve alongside white meats marinated in barbeque sauces (think hot wings) and fiery jerk seasoning, you’re in for a real treat. It’s also going to be equally at home with classic Sichuan dishes of chicken, pork, and fish, and you can even get great results with plenty of green vegetable dishes, crab and lobster pasta, and dishes which feature bacon and cheese. Nice!

Frankland River, Australia
Frankland River is one of five sub-regions in Great Southern, Western Australia. The Great Southern as the name suggests is extremely large, spread out over 100 km north to south and 150 km east to west. Frankland River is located in the north-west part of Great Southern and is known for high quality Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling as well as recent movement towards Grenache, Tempranillo and other Mediterranean varieties. The region is relatively recent with plantings dating back to 1967 and by the 1980s wineries like Alkoomi and Frankland Estate were well established.
