Details
Robert Cragg is a clever blender of different varieties and vineyards, and this shows off his skill nicely. The idea of the wine was to be a bigger more serious brother to his Grenache. It blends the lovely lifted red fruits of Grenache with the spicy green peppercorn characteristics of a small portion of Shiraz. This is then aged in American oak to bring out more sweet spices. Then the famous Portuguese red grape Touriga Nacional is used to tie the flavours together and add a darker shade of fruit and a more serious edge. There's a mix of bright and dark fruits, clean acidity and lots of juiciness. Full bodied but fresh. Good stuff.

There’s something brilliantly refreshing about Cragg Cru - and we’re not just referring to their gorgeously crisp white wine. This is a company which has thrown itself headfirst into the modern, young, hip and inventive side of McLaren Vale, approaching winemaking in a way which feels fresh, new, slightly rebellious, even, and yet has the results to justify every risk they take. With their distinctive South African designs on their bottles and branding, unusual grape varietal usage, and bold, boisterous flavours, this is a winery which demands your attention and is ready to take you into the right here, right now of the Aussie wine scene.

Pairing guide
McLaren Vale red blends rarely let us down, and this beautifully rich and juicy wine from Cragg Cru - which packs in their signature Grenache and Grenache Touriga varietal grapes - is no different. This lovely number is going to pair well with all kinds of laid-back savoury offerings, but we’d most like to crack it open with a big spread of pub food classics; think steak and kidney pie, mac ‘n’ cheese, or sausage and mashed potato. This wine would also go very nicely with lamb or beef stews, and spicy, fruity dishes like Moroccan tagine or Indian curries like a balti or madras. It’s also going to go well with oxtail, every lentil dish you can think of, and pretty much anything that contains lots of paprika and pimento (so dishes from central Spain or Hungary would be a fine match indeed!), perfect for experimenting and enjoying!
