Details
Brackenwood is located in the Kuitpo sub-region of the Adelaide Hills. The vineyard is bio-dynamic and all their grapes are grown without herbicides, fungicides or synthetic chemicals!
The 2017 Rosso is a blend based on Pinot Noir that shows aromas of ripe red plum, redcurrant and a hint of white pepper. It's beautifully floral as well, with fresh rose petal and a hint of lavender.
It's medium bodied, with flavours of summer berries, rhubarb and blood plum. A fresh, juicy red that will deliver great drinking pleasure over the warmer months.
When you taste the kinds of wines which come out of the beautiful Brackenwood Vineyard, the thought process behind vintner Damon Nagel’s biodynamic creations become completely clear. If you’re in possession of the sort of land his Adelaide Hills estate is comprised of, why the hell would you want to interrupt, complicate or dilute things with chemical intervention? Brackenwood wines are designed to be the ultimate expression of a very special part of the country; the aim is to capture that beauty and simplicity - those rolling hills and tranquil wetlands - in each and every bottle. Considering the praise and admiration Nagel has won in recent years, it would be impossible to say that his project has been anything but a roaring success. Damon Nagel kickstarted his career in wine as a sommelier in Adelaide. It was there he first discovered the blatant differences between overproduced and boring wines, and the naturally-made expressive bottles the Aussie wine scene was becoming increasingly famed for. He continued his wine education in London, made some money while he was there, and then returned to the Adelaide Hills with a clear mission in mind: to make the kind of low-intervention, characterful and flavourful wines he and his mates loved to drink. Fast forward a few years, and he was producing top-quality vino made from Aussie classics like Shiraz, and also experimenting with lesser-planted varietals, such as Gamay and Barbera. With the help of winemaker Daniel Zuzulo (previous of Primo Estate), Nagel could realise his dreams. The result? Wines which perfectly balance complexity with drinkability, and which have plenty to say about this unique wine region, in all its natural glory.

Pairing guide
Who doesn’t love a great bottle of Pinot Noir with their dinner? This deliciously drinkable wine has a remarkable balance which makes it ideal for all kinds of dishes, and it’s a lot of fun pairing it up with different ingredients to see what works best of all. We especially love this Brackenwood wine with duck - there’s something about the plumminess of the Pinot which really brings out the natural depth of medium duck meat - but it’s also going to be an absolute winner with slow cooked lamb, Moroccan lamb stews, and some Chinese meat dishes which play with sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavours. Asian street food such as Char Siu pork buns are a surprising hit with this wine, as are proper pub classics like beef or pork wellington. Nice!

Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges
of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
